Did your South Florida gas station hit the $4 mark? Check price in your area

Gas prices have inched up a couple of cents from last week, getting closer to $4 a gallon in Florida.

The good news for drivers? The average 2-cent increase across the state on Monday is not the double-digit jumps over the past few weeks.

While Miami has stayed just below the $4 mark, Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton/West Palm Beach County have broken the barrier.

But Miami-area prices are more than $1.04 higher per gallon than a month ago and 91 cents higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida.

North Florida remains the cheapest to pump in Florida, and gas even when down a couple of cents a gallon this week. Naples and Palm Beach County are the most expensive areas, according to AAA.

“Americans have already spent nearly $8 billion more on gasoline over the past month, a trend that poses growing risks to the broader economy, while surging diesel prices may begin to reaccelerate inflation.” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

What the experts are saying

▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “Gasoline and diesel prices continue to climb to multi-year highs as the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz curtails the flow of millions of barrels of crude oil each day. “The situation remains highly volatile and unpredictable, but upward pressure on fuel prices is likely to persist as long as global oil supplies are constrained by the continued disruption in the Strait. We’re likely to see the national average for gasoline push beyond the $4-per-gallon mark, while diesel could approach $6 per gallon and potentially set new records if conditions fail to improve.”
