This free program in Miami Gardens can help you land an IT job

A new training program for South Florida residents will give participants the skills needed to compete for IT jobs.

Starting in May , the first cohort of the TechHub Pathway program will launch at Miami Gardens’ Florida Memorial University. The free 21-week program will be offered online and is open to Florida residents ages 17 to 70, with a priority on South Florida residents. All tuition and lab fees are covered by grant funding from Lennar Homes.

“There is a great need for IT training certifications, giving those who can’t afford it an opportunity to get jobs of the future,” said Dinah Coleman-Mason, program director.

The Pathway program will offer CompTIA certifications to help participants land entry-level IT jobs. Those jobs can pay between $40,0000 and $75,000. No prior IT experienced is required.

Every person in the program will have a support coach to help guide them before, during and after training ends. The two cohorts will have 60 people. Classes are offered in the evenings so that participants can work day jobs and still take classes.

Coleman-Mason is optimistic that the program can increase the number of cybersecurity professionals from underrepresented minority and veteran groups.

“[Lennar] felt that this certification should be offered to those in the community who couldn’t afford it,” she said.

People can apply for the program online at techhubpathway.com.
