Why Florida gas prices are higher again. Check the cost in your area

Gas prices are up again this week as South Florida drivers get back to the workweek commute.

Prices have been up and down so far in 2026, but have increased about 12 cents a gallon in South Florida over the past two weeks. Even with the increases, Miami-area prices remain under $3 a gallon and are 28 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida.

“These fluctuations are part of a price‑cycling trend we’ve been seeing for more than a year now,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Retail prices tend to rise sharply over a short period, then gradually drift lower. Even with small movements in the oil market, this cycle continues to drive most of the day-to-day volatility at the pump.”

North Florida remains the cheapest to get gas in the state. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas, according to AAA.

What the experts are saying

▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “Average gasoline prices have jumped for a second straight week as oil prices have climbed back above the $60-per-barrel mark amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. New sanctions on Iran’s oil are making it more difficult for those barrels to reach the market, tightening supply, while the major winter storm that sent temperatures plunging is also likely to impact refineries, causing disruptions and reduced output. Diesel prices have jumped as colder weather boosts demand for heating oil, a combination that could keep both gasoline and diesel prices moving higher in the week ahead.”
