Florida gas prices plunge by double digits. See fuel costs in your area
Gas prices are down by double digits in Florida this week, and many areas in the state have dipped under $2.70 a gallon, according to an AAA report.
Last week, as drivers got back to their routine commutes after the holiday stretch, prices jumped. But this week’s decreases have wiped out those increases, and more.
Miami-area prices are nearly 14 cents lower than a month ago and 36 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida.
North Florida remains the cheapest to get gas in the state. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas.

What the experts are saying
▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy:“Gas prices nationally saw little change over the last week, though several price-cycling states did experience notable jumps. The good news is that once prices rise in these markets, they often retreat for a week or longer afterward. While the situation in Venezuela has dominated headlines, it’s far too early for any measurable impact on what consumers are paying at the pump— whether prices go up or down — as it would likely take years to see a meaningful increase in oil output there. For now, gas prices remain seasonally lower, but with oil prices inching higher, the national average could soon see some limited upward movement.”

There’s an app to help: The GasBuddy app was built to show motorists prices around them and a fuel tracker can update users on stations that have or don’t have fuel based on supply changes.
