When’s Publix closing for Christmas? What about malls, garbage, transit? See list

No holiday closes more supermarkets and retail locations than Christmas Day, which is why it’s also important to know what time doors close on Christmas Eve.

Here’s a rundown of the holiday hours for stores and services during the holiday stretch in Miami-Dade and Broward counties:

Supermarkets

Publix: Open until 7 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Winn-Dixie: Open until 9 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Sedano’s: Open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve. Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Day.

Presidente Supermarket: All locations open both days, 7 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Christmas Eve, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Day.

Price Choice Supermarkets: Open Christmas Day. Check the hours of your location.

Fresco Y Mas: Open until 9 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Milam’s Markets: Open 7 a.m. to 7 a.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Aldi: Open until 4 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Walmart Neighborhood Market: Open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Sprouts Farmers Market: Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

The Fresh Market: Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Whole Foods Market: Open until 7 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Trader Joe’s: Open until 5 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Big-box stores

Walmart: Open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Target: Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Costco: Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

BJ’s Wholesale Club: Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Pharmacy chains

Walgreens: The chain says stores will be open both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but “pharmacy hours may vary.” Expect the 24-hour stores to remain open, the non-24-hour stores to close at their regular time on Christmas Eve and around 5 p.m. on Christmas Day. Expect most pharmacies to be closed.

CVS/Navarro: Stores will be open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Some 24-hour locations will have pharmacies open on Christmas Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shopping malls

Brickell City Centre: Christmas Eve hours 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Florida Keys Outlet Marketplace: Christmas Eve hours 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Galleria Fort Lauderdale: Christmas Eve hours 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Miami International Mall: Christmas Eve hours 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Miami Worldcenter: Individual store hours vary on Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day. But some venues, like restaurants and entertainment centers, may be open Christmas.

The Palms at Town and Country: Store hours vary Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day, but check individual venues.

Pembroke Lakes Mall: Christmas Eve hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Sawgrass Mills: Christmas Eve hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Shops at Merrick Park: Christmas Eve hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Westland Mall: Christmas Eve hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Mass transit

Miami-Dade: Regular weekday schedule on Wednesday, Christmas Eve, for all Miami-Dade Transit services. On Christmas Day, Metrobus, Metrorail, Metromover and MetroConnect will all operate on a Sunday schedule. Regular weekday service on Friday.

Broward: Broward County Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day, but Express and Breeze bus services will not run. Staff will be at the Broward Main Terminal and Lauderhill Transit Center from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Customer service staff can handle trip planning for bus and paratransit services from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302).

Tri-Rail: Tri-Rail will run on a weekend/holiday schedule on Christmas Day.

Garbage pickup

Christmas Day is one of the days normal garbage collection operations will not be happening in unincorporated Miami-Dade County or the City of Miami.

Miami: No garbage or recycling pickup on Christmas Day.

Miami-Dade: No garbage or recycling collection on Christmas Day. Also, all facilities will be closed. If Thursday is your usual garbage day, the next pickup will be Monday, Dec. 29. If Thursday is your usual recycling day, the next pickup will be Saturday.

Broward: No garbage or recycling collection on Christmas Day. Regular collections will start again on Monday, Dec. 29.

Fort Lauderdale: No garbage or recycling collections. Recycling and yard waste collection pickups will occur on Sunday.

Elsewhere: Check with your municipality

U.S. mail

No mail delivery, aside from Priority Mail Express, on Christmas Day. Branches will be closed on Christmas Day, open on Christmas Eve and Friday.

Stock Markets

New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ: Open until 1 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Courts and government offices

Miami-Dade: Closed Christmas Day.

Broward: Closed Christmas Day and Friday.

    Libraries

    Miami-Dade: Open 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

    Broward: Libraries close at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day and Friday. NSU-Alvin Sherman Library will be open Friday.
