Gas prices are down double digits in Florida. Will the trend continue?
Gas prices have dropped for the second straight week in Florida, with most areas under $3 a gallon. Prices are down 10 cents a gallon in the state and Broward, and 8 cents in Miami-Dade, according to AAA.
Miami-area prices are 2.5 cents higher from a month ago but nearly 16 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida.
But don’t expect the good news of dropping gas prices to last for long.
“Drivers should expect gas prices to bounce back this week,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group. “Over the past year, we’ve seen a consistent pattern: when prices fall for two straight weeks, they typically climb 10–20 cents shortly after. This is part of the normal price-cycling behavior, where retailers adjust prices to attract customers and stay competitive in the market. So far this year, Florida gas prices have bounced between $2.84 per gallon to $3.23.”
North Florida remains the cheapest to get gas in the state. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas.

What the experts are saying
▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “Gas prices continued to decline in most states last week, while some price cycling states saw temporary spikes to restore margins. With the national average falling further, we’re now at multi-year lows heading into Christmas. Diesel prices are also easing, and in the cheapest cities, averages have dipped into the low-$2 range — with a few stations still offering gas under $2 per gallon. Barring any major disruptions, prices are likely to stay relatively low into the new year.”
How to find cheap gas near you
There’s an app to help: The GasBuddy app was built to show motorists prices around them and a fuel tracker can update users on stations that have or don’t have fuel based on supply changes.
