Good news for Miami commuters back to work after Thanksgiving. See gas prices

If you’re back to the work commute after Thanksgiving week, take note: Gas prices have decreased in Florida.

Miami-Dade prices have dipped under $3 a gallon. And Monday morning’s state average is down 8 cents a gallon from last week, according to AAA.

The decrease across Florida continues a yo-yo pattern that drivers have been seeing for months. During Thanksgiving week, for instance, prices were up double digits from the week before.

Miami-area prices are nearly 4 cents higher from a month ago and more than 6 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida.

North Florida remains the cheapest to get gas in the state. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas.

What he experts are saying

▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “Nearly every state saw average gas prices fall heading into Thanksgiving, with the national average dipping below $3 per gallon for several consecutive days — falling to $2.95a gallon over the weekend, the lowest level since May 2021. With refinery maintenance largely complete and OPEC increasing oil production for December, oil prices have struggled. Combine those factors, and you have a solid recipe for continued downward pressure on gas prices in the weeks ahead. A few dozen stations are already offering gas under $2 per gallon, and we could see that number grow as we move further into the holiday season. It couldn’t come at a better time for Americans — with relief arriving just as the holidays kick off.”
