Gas on the rise in South Florida. How much are you paying? See prices

Gas prices have jumped this week in Florida. But most areas, including Miami-Dade and Broward, remain under $3 a gallon.

Monday morning’s state average is $2.91 a gallon, according to AAA.

The rise continues the yo-yo pattern in Florida gas prices. Last week, prices were down by double digits.

“Florida gas prices continue fluctuating on a weekly basis,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group. “Fortunately, pump prices remain on the low end of what drivers have paid this year.”

Miami-area prices are less than a penny higher from a month ago and more than 16 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida.

North Florida remains the cheapest to get gas in the state. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas.

What the experts are saying

▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “With oil prices mostly stable near the $60 per barrel level, we’ve seen the national average move very little over the last few weeks. Roughly half of all states saw prices rise in the last week, while the other half saw prices fall. The West Coast should soon see notable price relief as wholesale prices drop amidst seasonally declining demand. With refinery maintenance nearing completion, we’ll likely see supply improve — and I’m hopeful this will bring the national average solidly below $3 per gallon by Christmas.”

How to find cheap gas near you

There’s an app to help: The GasBuddy app was built to show motorists prices around them and a fuel tracker can update users on stations that have or don’t have fuel based on supply changes.
