Gas prices up again in Florida — but there’s good news. See the cheapest places

Gas prices have increased this week in Florida. But most areas, including Miami-Dade and Broward, remain under $3 a gallon, if barely.

Miami-area prices are nearly 8 cents lower from a month ago and nearly 3 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida.

“Gas price cycling continues at Florida gas pumps, where the state average declines for 5-10 days, then rebounds anywhere from 10-25 cents,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group. “Fortunately, this week’s hike was on the low end, and drivers continue to find some of the lowest prices of the year.”

Gas prices also ticked up last week.

North Florida remains the cheapest to get gas in the state. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas.

What the experts are saying

▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “The national average once again briefly dipped below the $3 per gallon mark, but the drop will be short-lived. Gas prices are likely to rebound soon in the Great Lakes states due to ongoing refinery challenges, while a new snag at a California refinery may slow the pace of declines on the West Coast. To top it off, OPEC+ announced another boost to oil production for December over the weekend, though they also signaled a pause in further increases from January through March. For now, expect the national average to hover in the low-$3 range, potentially drifting lower once refinery issues are resolved.”

How to find cheap gas near you

There’s an app to help: The GasBuddy app was built to show motorists prices around them and a fuel tracker can update users on stations that have or don’t have fuel based on supply changes.
