Gas prices have inched up in Florida. See the cheapest places to pump

Gas prices have inched up in Florida this week. But there’s good news: Most areas, including Miami-Dade and Broward, remain under $3 a gallon.

Miami-area prices are the same from a month ago and 20 cents a gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida.

“Price cycling remains a common occurrence at Florida’s gas pumps,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group. “The good news for drivers is that the higher end of that trend is much lower than it used to be.”

North Florida remains the cheapest to get gas in the state. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas.

What the experts are saying

▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “The national average saw a slight rise over the last week, as gas prices surged in parts of the Midwest after a refinery fire pushed wholesale gasoline prices sharply higher in the region. While the spike in prices in affected areas was significant, relief is likely in the weeks ahead as the situation stabilizes. For now, the possibility of a U.S.-China trade deal could lift oil prices on optimism that it would increase trade and reduce tariffs—potentially keeping the national average slightly above the $3-per-gallon mark for a couple more weeks before slipping back below $3 ahead of Thanksgiving.”

How to find cheap gas near you

There’s an app to help: The GasBuddy app was built to show motorists prices around them and a fuel tracker can update users on stations that have or don’t have fuel based on supply changes.
