Gas prices plunge by double digits in Florida. See the cheapest places to pump
Gas prices are on a yo-yo string — up one week and down the next. And so it goes again this week, with prices falling by double digits in Florida.
After rising last week, prices have dipped about 11 cents a gallon in the state and even more in South Florida.
Miami-area prices are down about 4 cents from a month ago and 18 cents from a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida.
State prices are now averaging less than $3 a gallon again.
“Florida gas prices slipped to the lower end of the 30-cent range, which it has fluctuated within for the past year,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group. “Global fuel prices are facing downward pressure on reports that global fuel supplies are outpacing demand.”
North Florida remains the cheapest to get gas in the state. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas.

What the experts are saying
▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “Americans appear to be on the cusp of seeing the national average drop below $3 per gallon for the first time in years, as prices have fallen across the vast majority of the country. With well over 40 states seeing gas prices decline and oil plunging below $60 per barrel to end the week, the good news may not end if — and when — the national average hits that magical $2.99 mark. We could even see a handful of stations in places like Oklahoma, Texas, or even Wisconsin drop below $2 per gallon in the weeks ahead — something not seen since the pandemic. In addition, with wages up and gas prices down, Americans are spending the smallest share of their paycheck on gasoline in many years.”
How to find cheap gas near you
There’s an app to help: The GasBuddy app was built to show motorists prices around them and a fuel tracker can update users on stations that have or don’t have fuel based on supply changes.
