Rodents got into the coffee bar and buns at a Broward gas station minimart

The coffee and open food processing areas of a Tamarac gas station convenience store operating without a food permit got shut down by rodent nibbling and pooping.

What used to be a 7-Eleven attached to the Mobil station at 3101 W. Commercial Blvd. is now a Food Mart. When Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services inspector Timothy O’Neil dropped in Thursday for the first inspection since the change, he dropped a few Stop Use Orders.

Here’s why:

“Numerous rodent droppings and a rodent trap found under the coffee bar sink and in cabinet drawers of the coffee bar. ... Also, a “rodent chewed a bag of hamburger buns, a granola bar and single serve items found inside the cabinet under the coffee bar.”

Also, the area under the coffee bar area was “littered with old food packages, spilled drinks, overflowing seepage from garbage, and discarded single use items.”

That drew the Stop Use Orders on the coffee bar and open food processing areas. That might be the start of something big — and worse.

“If evidence of pest infestation is observed on the next inspection, a Stop Use Order will be issued on all receiving areas of the establishment and the establishment will no longer be allowed to receive additional food items,” the inspection said. “A Stop-Use Order of all processing equipment will be issued and a Stop-Sale Order of all exposed food items will be issued until the infestation is eradicated.”

A Stop Use Order also hit a food roller on the counter next to the hot food case because it had “an old buildup of carbon and old food debris.”

Among the ready-to-eat hot food for sale, which should be kept at 135 degrees or more, hot dogs; chicken wings, steak and cheese, Southwest chicken and bacon and egg taquitos all measured between 97 and 127 degrees. Each got hit with a Stop Sale and trashed.

“This food establishment is operating without a valid food permit and has not met the inspection requirements to obtain a food permit.”
