Roll the credits: South Beach’s Regal Cinemas to close Sept. 30
In less than two weeks, a chapter of South Florida film history will end: The Regal Cinemas in Miami Beach will be closed.
“Sad!” one social-media user said about the upcoming closing.
In Regal Cinemas’ place at 1120 Lincoln Road Mall will be the Superhuman Museum, according to WLRN.
Former comedian and mayoral candidate Steve Berke is the business owner behind the Superhuman Museum. It will feature art and technology exhibits.
While the Miami Beach Planning Board said it received many letters from residents about saving the theater, the decision had already been made.
Regal was renting the location on a month-to-month basis and was set on leaving.
The Miami Beach theater’s closure reflects national trends of movie theaters declining in business during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
