A home furnishings store is closing in Miami-Dade. What’s that mean for Kmart?
Home furnishings and decor chain At Home announced it plans to close 30 locations nationwide in September.
One of the shutdowns is in South Florida, the only store in the state affected, according to a court document list filed in June and amended in August. According to the filing, the Texas-based At Home has “faced a challenging commercial environment brought on by both broader economic and retail-specific market pressures.”
The At Home store set to close is at 14585 Biscayne Blvd. in North Miami. That would leave the other South Florida location, in Kendale Lakes, open for now. Six more stores were added to the list in August, but none were in Florida, the Palm Beach Post reported.
The remaining South Florida location, 14091 SW 88th St., houses the last Kmart in the continental U.S. In 2023, Kmart leased out the majority of its space in Kendale Lakes to At Home, keeping a small corner for what was once one of the largest retail chains in the nation.
