What is a dirty soda? Customers line up at a new Florida drive-thru drink shop
Cars are lining up for Swig, a drive-thru drink shop, which recently expanded in Florida with its first Bradenton location.
Swig popularized the “dirty soda” beverage. In 2024, the drink went viral on social media due to Hulu’s reality television show, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and an Olivia Rodrigo endorsement, according to Bon Appetit.
In Florida, Swig also has a location in Clermont and is planning another shop in the Lutz area near Tampa.
What’s a dirty soda?
A part of Mormon culture, the dirty soda combines soda with a custom mix of flavors, fresh fruits, purees and creams, according to Swig. Customers can create their own or order from 36 different types on the menu.
Some popular flavors include the Shark Attack, which blends Sprite, lemonade and blue raspberry with a gummy shark topping; the Texas Tab, which blends Dr. Pepper, vanilla and coconut cream; and the Strawberry Breeze, which combines water, sugar-free coconut, sugar-free vanilla, strawberry puree, frozen strawberries and coconut cream.
What else is on Swig’s menu?
Dirty sodas aren’t the only item on Swig’s menu. The drink shop also sells water-based refreshers, Reviver energy drinks and snacks such as pretzel bites and cookies.
While the store has opened in in Bradenton, Swig’s grand opening is two weeks away. Customers who join the VIP text club will receive a free 24-ounce dirty soda for the grand opening.
The store is wedged between 63rd Street West and 66th Street West off Cortez Road West. Nicole Tanner founded Swig in 2010 in St. George, Utah, according to company history. For more information, visit SwigDrinks.com.
