How a chamber of commerce can change your Miami business. 6 things to know

The Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce is on the move — not only to a new location, but also with the programs it offers to the community.

On Aug. 27, the business group is moving from North Miami-Dade to new headquarters in Miami ‘s historic Liberty City.

Founded in 1974, the Miami Dade Chamber of Commerce supports local minority businesses and resources. The move to Liberty Square will base the group in a hub for Black businesses.

G. Eric Knowles, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, and Matthew Pigatt, Director of Small Business and Membership Services, spoke with the Miami Herald about the organization and what it does for the community.

Here are six things to know:

1. The Chamber of Commerce works to support local minority businesses in Miami

The Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce prioritizes putting local minority businesses on the same level as every business. backgrounds.

“We specialize in assisting Black and minority businesses in South Florida to scale and grow their business,” said Pigatt said.

2. Helps members get business funding

The business group provides access to community and government contracts to help with funding. It also offers membership, space to network, and paths to find opportunities and strengthen a business. “The Miami Chamber of Commerce is an intrinsic part of the small business ecosystem in Miami Dade County,” Pigatt said.

3. Technical assistance

A chamber program helps small-business owners better understand the direction of their business.

“We do technical assistance every day, helping them understand their business, understand where they’re going, and helping them connect the dots to grow,” Knowles said.

4. One-on-one consultations with business owners

The chamber can answer questions for small businesses.

Resources include one-on-one consultations, bi-weekly forums, prfessional development and access to certifications.

5. Small business meetups

The Miami Chamber of Commerce hosts a small business meetup at 4 p.m. every Tuesday on Zoom. The event allows businesses a connection and a way to foster new relationships.

“We’re making sure to help connect the dots, providing economic and social transformation in our community,” Knowles said.
