With slots spinning, Hialeah Park eyes hotel


Hialeah Race Track slots celebrated its second anniversary on Friday. The big opening is around Labor Day weekend. There are about 800 slots, poker and all kinds of dining options. This track was the premiere horse racing emporium in the U.S. in the 1920s, ‘30s, 40s and ‘50s.

Hialeah Park got a late start in getting its slots spinning, but it’s aiming to be the first racetrack casino with a hotel.

Hialeah Park president John Brunetti Sr. said hotel construction is expected to start in late 2016, with work on a shopping mall to begin the year after that.
