Flies, sanitizing problems among reasons a Miami Sedano’s failed inspection
Too much sanitizer, no sanitizer, bad scoops and flies were on the list of problems that caused a West Miami-Dade Sedano’s Supermarket to fail state inspection on Monday.
Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Inspectors Wenndy Ayerdis and Margaret Alvarez found enough violations at 14525 SW Eighth St. to give this Sedano’s the worst result: “Re-Inspection Required.”
Here’s some of what they found:
▪ People working with food in the kitchen, meat and produce areas “did not wash hands between entering and exiting the food preparation area and prior to donning gloves to handle food items.”
▪ In the cafe, “multiple flies observed flying throughout the processing area.” In the deli, a fly was on top of the meat tenderizer.
▪ The sanitizer in the spray bottles used for the deli slicers measured over 400 parts per million, when it should have been only 200 ppm maximum.
▪ The warewashing sinks in the meat and the seafood areas had no sanitizer.
▪ A bag of potatoes sat directly on the floor in the produce prep area.
▪ Scoops without handles were being used in the seasoning bins, making it too easy for hands to touch the seasoning.
▪ In the sugar bin, the scoop handle was touching the sugar.
▪ Foam trays for the meat were “not stored in the original packaging on shelves above the equipment.”
▪ The walk-in freezers in the kitchen, meat department and the backroom areas all had “ice build up on the floors, curtains and walls.”
