Allegiant launching Fort Lauderdale-San Antonio flights

Low-cost airline Allegiant announced Tuesday that it will launch nonstop flights between Fort Lauderdale and San Antonio starting Nov. 5.

The Las Vegas-based carrier said it will operate the flights twice a week. According to the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, there is no direct service between the two cities at this point.

Allegiant estimates the flights will bring more than 5,000 visitors a year to Broward County.
