Rodent dung found on pet food shelves at a Fort Lauderdale Family Dollar
A state inspector slapped a Stop-Use Order on an aisle of pet food at a Fort Lauderdale Family Dollar after seeing rodents use shelves for their own needs.
“Recent rodent droppings found on a shelf with animal food in the retail area,” Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services inspector Timothy O’Neil wrote on Tuesday’s inspection visit to 951 W. Sunrise Blvd.

The Stop-Use Order is the harshest restriction an Ag Department inspector can slap on a place. They can’t shut down a place as restaurant inspectors from the Department of Business & Professional Regulation can. But enough Stop Use Orders can make it hard, if not impossible, to operate an establishment.
“The affected storage areas shall be completely cleared of all merchandise, cleaned and sanitized by the next inspection; no other merchandise may be added to the storage area or a Broken Stop-Use will be issued,” the inspection said.
“If evidence of pest infestation is observed on the next inspection, a Stop-Use Order will be issued on all receiving areas of the establishment and the establishment will be no longer be allowed to receive additional food items.”
Also, this corporate-owned Family Dollar that doubled as a Dollar Tree “is operating without a valid food permit.”
The store needs to remedy that in 10 days.
