Gas prices have plunged 15 cents in Florida and even more in Miami. Here’s a look
Gas prices have plunged an average of 15 cents in Florida and 17 cents in the Miami area since last week.
In the Miami area, prices are nearly 11 cents a gallon lower than a month ago and 26 cents lower than a year ago.
“The discount at the pump came as a result of a decline in the price of crude oil,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesperson, for AAA - The Auto Club Group. “Earlier this month, oil price rose to multi-month highs due to frigid temps in the southern U.S. and sanctions on Russian crude. Now, oil prices are back down to where they were to start the year, allowing gas prices to fall, too.”
Several North Florida areas are averaging less than $3 a gallon as the region remains the cheapest to get gas in the state, in some places about 25 cents cents less per gallon than South Florida. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas for gas.

What the experts are saying
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “The national average has seen little meaningful change over the past week, as oil markets continue to face selling pressure. However, with President Trump imposing tariffs on Canada and Mexico, some motorists may see gas prices inch up in certain regions. “Trump’s new trade war has already triggered retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods, escalating tensions. While, on paper, tariffs on Canadian energy could have a significant impact on fuel prices, a prolonged trade war could weaken global economies, reducing demand and partially offsetting the effects of tariffs. For now, I expect a slow but modest impact on fuel prices, particularly in the Great Lakes, Midwest, Rockies, and Northeast U.S.— all markets that rely heavily on Canadian crude oil or refined product imports from Canada.”
