Macy’s ‘bold move’ means closing five South Florida stores. Here’s where they are
Macy’s announced the closing of 66 of its stores nationwide, including five in South Florida, as part of its “Bold New Chapter” strategy.
That strategy is hardly a secret as the New York retail giant said last year Macy’s would close up to 150 under-performing stores through 2026 in an effort to shore up flagging profits.
On Friday, in listing the shutdowns, which includes eight Florida stores, Macy’s chairman and CEO Tony Spring said in a statement: “Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service.”
Stores that will be closed began clearance sales in January that will run for about 8 to 12 weeks. Macy’s Furniture Galleries, which account for more than half of Florida’s targeted stores, and Macy’s Backstage stores will start clearance sales in February for about six weeks.
An exact date for the closing of specific stores hasn’t been announced.
