South Florida-based airline files for bankruptcy. So what does it mean for travelers?
Relatively new, regional airline Silver Airways has announced it filed for bankruptcy — a decision the South Florida-based company claims will help it grow in the future but has left travelers wondering what will happen to their tickets.
Silver Airways, formed in 2011 and headquartered in Hollywood, connects travelers to major cities in Florida, the Bahamas and other parts of the Caribbean. Founded from the bankrupt Gulfstream International Airways, an air taxi servicing similar areas, Silver Airways on Monday voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida.
In a statement, the company said its decision was made to “ensure a sustainable future for our company.”
“This decision will allow us to secure additional capital and undertake a financial restructuring that will strengthen our position as a competitive airline, ultimately benefiting you—our valued customers,” the company said.
The bankruptcy process is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025, but for now, Silver Airlines said their customers need not worry.
All tickets will remain valid, and flights can still be booked on the Silver Airlines website or other channels.
Tickets purchased through other airlines or agencies will also be honored.
“Our team remains committed to delivering the safe, comfortable, and reliable travel experience you deserve—whether you’re flying for business, reuniting with loved ones, or taking a well-earned beach getaway,” the company said.
