When will Publix close New Year’s Eve? What’s open on the holiday? Here’s the rundown

New Year’s Eve parties and New Year’s Day football require food, drink and specialized attire — and that requires retailers open for business across South Florida.

So they are, except for one very large big box retailer. Public services like mass transit don’t stop either.

Here’s what’s open and what’s closed on New Year’s Day along with New Year’s Eve hours for mall, supermarkets and major pharmacy chains:

Winn-Dixie: Open until 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Open regular hours New Year’s Day.

Sedano’s: Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year’s Day.

Presidente: Open New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Check your favorite location for hours.

Milam’s Market: Closing at 9 p.m. New Year’s Eve and opening at 9 a.m. New Year’s Day.

Price Choice: Open New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Check your location for hours.

Aldi: Closing at 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Closed New Year’s Day.

The Fresh Market: Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year’s Day.

Whole Foods Market: Open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year’s Day.

Trader Joe’s: Open until 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Closed New Year’s Day.

Walmart Neighborhood Market: Normal business hours.

Costco: Open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Closed New Year’s Day.

Target: Closes 9 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Open normal hours New Year’s Day.

BJ’s Warehouse Club: Open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Year’s Day, although BJ’s says “hours may vary, so we encourage members to check with their local club.”

Walgreens: Regular hours for the store and photo area. Most pharmacies are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve and closed New Year’s Day.

CVS/Navarro: Stores and pharmacies open New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Check with your location.

Miami-Dade: On New Year’s Eve, Metrorail and Metromover will run until 2 a.m. You can only exit Metrorail stations after 2 a.m. The Green and Orange lines will run every 30 minutes. Metrorail station parking will be open until 3 a.m. On New Year’s Day, Metrobus and MetroConnect will run on a Sunday schedule. Metrorail and Metromover will run on a weekend schedule. MetroLink won’t run.

Broward: Broward County Transit will run on a Sunday schedule. Transit centers and the main terminal will be staffed from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Tri-Rail: As 2024 becomes 2025, northbound trains will leave Miami Central station, 600 NW First Ave., at 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., making all stops. The rest of New Year’s Day will run on the weekend and holiday schedule.

Garbage

Miami-Dade: Regular garbage and recycling pickups.

Note: Residents of other places should check with their municipalities.

U.S. mail

Expect regular delivery and services on New Year’s Eve, but only Priority Mail Express delivery in some markets on New Year’s Day.

Stock markets

New York Stock Exchange will close at 4 p.m. as usual on New Year’s Eve. Both NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange will be closed New Year’s Day.

County offices, courts and libraries

Miami-Dade and Broward: Closed New Year’s Day.
