Gas prices have increased in Florida and Miami. Take a look at what we’re paying

If you’re traveling to get an early start on the holidays, or just commuting to and from work, expect to pay more for gas this week in Florida.

In Miami, prices have increased 3 cents a gallon from last week, averaging $3.11. That’s 2.7 cents a gallon lower than a month ago and 14.7 cents a gallon higher than a year ago.

Across the state, prices nudged up as well.

“Despite the modest uptick, gas prices remain within the same range they’ve been in since early September,” said AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins.

Several North Florida areas are averaging less than $2.80 a gallon as the region remains the cheapest to get gas in the state, in some places about 25 to 30 cents cents less per gallon than South Florida. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas for gas.

What the experts are saying

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “As we edge closer to the end of the year, we’re seeing momentum for falling gas prices weaken, which is typical as the national average generally bottoms out between Thanksgiving and Christmas. With oil prices rising back above $70 last week, gas prices may have less potential to drop much further, though there may be a second window of lower prices in January or February in some areas, but even that won’t last long. While several states saw gas prices cycle last week, marked by a big jump in prices after a large decline, those that did see hefty jumps should see prices drift a bit lower, potentially making a second run at the season’s lowest prices.” T

Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman: “During the past three months, the state average has bounced between $2.99 a gallon and $3.20 a gallon. Oil prices have remained low during that time, which has prevented any significant jump at the pump.”
