Miami Dade College launches computer animation and gaming center

Miami Dade College’s ambitious Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex (M.A.G.I.C.) will be inaugurated Aug. 21, with classes starting the following Monday, Aug. 24.

Located at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. Second Avenue in downtown Miami, the 9,000 square-foot facility – the first of its kind at a public higher education school in Florida – was designed to mirror similar facilities at various film and TV studios, including Pixar Animation.

The center will allow students to study modeling, lighting, motion, sound, and storytelling via an intensive, hands-on two-year program. M.A.G.I.C. will offer Associate in Science degrees in Computer Programming and Analysis with concentrations in Animation and Game Art, or Game Development and Design.

In the fall, M.A.G.I.C. will host this year’s MIA Animation Conference & Festival, an industry conference focused on computer animation, gaming, visual effects and motion graphics, film, web design and visual arts.
