State inspectors found ruined pasta and a shut-down restroom at a Winn-Dixie in Deerfield Beach last week.

Florida Department of Agriculture Inspectors Tasheka Edmond and Christine McIver didn’t list many problems on the Aug. 28 inspection of the Rivertowne Square Winn-Dixie, 1019 S. Federal Hwy. But what they found was enough for a “Re-Inspection Required,” the worst result on Ag Department inspections.

Here’s the worst of what they found.

“Grain insects inside packages of pasta.” Four 16-ounce boxes of SE Grocers Penne Pasta got hit with Stop Sales.

In the produce department, “observed mold-like buildup on loose mushrooms at the produce retail area.” A Stop Sale sent a 3-pound pack of mushrooms into the garbage.

Also in the produce department, the cut watermelon and cantaloupe measured 43 to 45 degrees. Unless food in cold storage is kept 41 degrees or below, it’s a threat to become a bacteria bath. Stop Sales took the watermelon and cantaloupe off the shelves.

There were enough live roaches spotted in the men’s room on the backroom that the inspectors slapped a Stop Use Order on the restroom.

“Soil buildup on honeycomb vents throughout the retail area.”

The ceiling tiles over the retail area were described as “water damaged” and, in the produce department walk-in cooler there was “water dripping from a seam in the ceiling.”
