Florida gas prices are changing. What about holiday travel? See how much we’re paying

Gas prices are going down in Florida. But will the pattern stick around as we travel for Labor Day?

“Floridians planning to hit the road for Labor Day weekend are likely to find the lowest gas prices for the holiday weekend in three years,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said.

Prices across the state dropped 2 cents a gallon as of Monday, according to AAA.

Prices in the Miami area slid more than 3 cents a gallon — that’s down more than 14 cents a gallon from a month ago and more than 42 cents cheaper than a year ago, according to GasBuddy.

The Bradenton area saw a 2-cent drop from last week, AAA says.

North Florida remains the cheapest region to get gas in the state, in some places about 25 cents less per gallon than South Florida. Palm Beach County is among the most expensive areas for gas.

Here’s what to know if you’re commuting or traveling in Florida:

What the experts are saying

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “It seems fitting that, in the run-up to Labor Day, the national average has fallen for four straight weeks to its lowest point since February, giving Americans one last chance to hit the road with gas prices being less of a factor.”

Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman: “Low oil prices have kept pump prices in check.”

How to find cheap gas near you

There’s an app to help: The GasBuddy app was built to show motorists prices around them and a fuel tracker can update users on stations that have or don’t have fuel based on supply changes.
