Columbia Sportswear is bringing its brand of trendy fishing gear to South Florida and teaming up with Shake-A-Leg Miami to help the local community.

Columbia is set to open its first Performance Fishing Gear concept store in the South Florida area on July 31 at The Falls, 8888 SW 136th St., in Kendall.

And a portion of the proceeds from its grand opening sales that day will benefit Shake-A-Leg, a Miami nonprofit organization that offers water sports to adults and children with disabilities, as well as disadvantaged youths and their families.

“Miami is the perfect landscape for Columbia’s core PFG customer,” said Shawn Cox, Columbia’s Sr. Vice President of Retail. “The region is both a home and a destination for serious anglers and individuals who simply enjoy the sophistication and style of the Columbia PFG product line. We look forward to celebrating our Grand Opening with South Florida customers who are enthusiastic about high-quality outdoor and fishing gear and who embrace the adventure of the Columbia PFG-inspired life.”

Columbia will donate 10 percent of the sale price (excluding taxes and returns within 30 days) from purchases made between July 31 and Aug. 2 — a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $5,000 — to Shake-A-Leg Miami. The company will also make a separate $20,000 donation to the organization.

Among the store’s grand opening promotions throughout August are chances to win an 18-foot Mako fishing boat outside the mall on Aug. 1 and win a fishing trip and fishing lesson from TV host George Poveromo.

Customers can enter the contest by visiting the new Columbia PFG store and filling out an entry form. The winner will be announced Sept. 3.

The one-month entry period features the 18-foot-long boat parked outside the store for consumers to snap photos with and post online for additional chances to win using the hashtags #ColumbiaPFGSweepstakes and #ShopTheFalls.

Poveromo will visit the store from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 3 to announce the winners and meet customers.
