Miami ‘luxury ice’ maker had unsanitized ice-making equipment with mold on chute
A Miami ice maker that has “luxury ice” in its parent company’s name also has “mold-like” substances in the ice chute of its ice makers, a Florida Department of Agriculture inspector says.
Inspector Manual Uribe said Yelo Luxury Ice’s Mr. Ice Guy doesn’t have properly sanitized equipment, a valid food permit and a proper water source.
“Food establishment does not meet the minimum requirements nor implements good manufacturing practices for the manufacturing of ice,” the inspection said.
Uribe’s inspection of the maker of custom ice, craft ice and dry ice included Stop Sale Orders on 40 20-pound bags of ice and 97 packs of ice in cubes and spheres for testing procedure violations; and Stop Use Orders for the processing and packaging area, the bandsaw, bags and scoops, an ice maker and an ice block maker for sanitary issues.
Uribe issued the stop on April 28 at the Allapattah facility, 2217 SW 26th Ave. The findings:
▪ “Inside the prep walk-in cooler, mold-like substance on ice chute of both ice makers.”
▪ “Utensils and equipment used to manufacture and process ice products not sanitized due to lack of a ware wash sink installed in the food establishment, sink stoppers nor sanitizing agent.”
▪ “Excessive amount of debris behind ice makers located inside the prep walk-in cooler, as well as inside the walk-in freezer.”
▪ “No handwash sink installed inside the ice packaging room.”
▪ “No proof of approved sewer source provided...”
▪ “No proof of approved water source...”
▪ “No test strips for measuring parts per million of sanitizing solution available...”
▪ “Food establishment does not conduct quarterly microbiological analysis for water source and finished products.”
