Inspectors find rodent poop near food racks at a Miami-Dade ‘major’ food distributor

A Medley food distribution company that claims Marriott, Hilton, Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons and Atlantis hotels among its clients failed state inspection Friday after rodent droppings were found near canned food.

The problem prompted Global Food Corp. to call exterminator Truly Nolen on the spot, according to inspector Fausto Ferrera’s report. And Ferrera dropped a Stop Use Order on the north or west side of the dry storage area at 11450 NW 122nd St., meaning Global can’t use the area until further notice.

Global Food Corp.’s website says it’s a “major importer, distributor and exporter across all foodservice categories” and the Florida Department of Agriculture inspection agrees that Global’s a “major food distributor.”

But, inspector Ferrera saw major problems, starting with “rodent droppings behind a rack of canned beets on the north side of the building.” Also, he saw signs of rodent regularity “on the floor behind a rack of canned pears on the northwest side of the building.

“Area was cleaned and droppings removed. Warehouse manager made call for the exterminator “Truly Nolen” to come out and treat the problem.”

How the rodents gained entry seemed fairly obvious when Ferrera noted “holes in the dry wall behind pallets of canned beets in the dry storage area of the facility, where rodent droppings were found.”

He also said food products were stored too close to the wall for “proper inspection and cleaning of the area.”
