Amazon can now speed deliveries to Miami-area doorsteps this fast

Five-hour delivery from Amazon?

It’s now possible for its Prime Members in the Miami area.

After opening the first in a series of miniature fulfillment centers in the region — creating hundreds of jobs in the process — the e-commerce giant is now offering same-day delivery that in some cases can be fulfilled in a matter of hours.

For Miami-area customers, Amazon’s new center in Tamarac has the ability to store what Amazon calls need-it-today items and popular goods that allow for rapid delivery to area Prime members. The center opened in August.

“We are very excited that Amazon’s new sub-same day facility has joined our Commerce Park,” said Michelle J. Gomez, mayor of Tamarac, in a statement. “The new Tamarac facility brought new jobs and investment into our city. Hiring is going exceptionally well and we look forward to a long, successful relationship with Amazon that benefits our community, their customers, and employees alike.”

Amazon says it now employs more than 50,000 full- and part-time workers across Florida.
