Three killed in Florida Keys house fire identified

A mother and her two young children died early Sunday in a house fire on Ramrod Key, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s department. They were Robin Ferrer, 46; son Roman, 7, and daughter Hazel, 5.

Ferrer’s older son, Jacob, 18, who was burned attempting to save his family, is undergoing treatment at Miami’s Ryder Trauma Center,is expected to survive. Ferrer’s older daughter Courtney, 19, also attempted to save the family but was not injured, according to a Monroe Sheriff’s release.

The fire was reported on Anguila Lane around 12:35 a.m. When first responders arrived, the home was engulfed in flames, according to the sheriff’s report. The cause is under investigation.
