A roofer’s 19th OSHA fine since 2014, on a Tamarac job, got reduced by almost $54,000

Florida roofer Crown Roofing and OSHA danced their established routine at a Tamarac home: OSHA cites Crown Roofing, usually for fall-protection violations; Crown settles the proposed fine for less; then pays the fine (maybe).

This time, the workplace safety waltz will cost Crown $80,962, settled from a proposed $134,937, a reduction of $53,975.

There was only one citation at 8206 NW 79th Ave. in Tamarac for fall-protection violations as workers toiled on a 10-foot roof. This is the 12th inspection in which they’ve been cited for fall-protection violations.

So, the Sarasota-based company will have paid or be in the process of paying $364,884 in OSHA fines over 14 inspections since the start of 2014, according to OSHA’s website. In addition, Crown is contesting the violations in another five inspections that resulted in another $741,577 in proposed fines.

One of the contested inspections included a “willful” violation, defined by OSHA defines as “a violation in which the employer either knowingly failed to comply with a legal requirement (purposeful disregard) or acted with plain indifference to employee safety.“
