As the Chinese vacation market grows increasingly important to the global cruise industry, the biggest of the bunch has announced plans to base a top executive there.
Doral-based Carnival Corp. announced during an earnings call this week that chief operations officer Alan Buckelew would make the move.
Buckelew, who headed Princess Cruises before moving to the corporate role late last year, will be in charge of the parent company’s initiatives in China as well as his COO duties, which include overseeing global maritime and port operations.
Carnival Corp., with a fleet of 101 ships in 10 brands, will have four ships based in China next year.
