Publix ... where working is a pleasure?

You bet your BOGO, according to Fortune Magazine partner and business research firm Great Place to Work Institute. Florida’s ubiquitous supermarket chain ranked No. 2 among Best Workplaces in Retail for 2018, a list Great Place to Work says results from a 60 question survey of 631,000 workers at various companies.

The survey said 93 percent of Publix employees said, “I am given the resources and equipment to do my job,” and 92 percent believed, “I feel good about the ways we contribute to the community.” And 88 percent answered, “I’m proud to tell others I work here.”

Another supermarket chain, Rochester, New York-based Wegman’s Food Market, took the No. 1 spot. Trends say that’ll be Publix’s place next year after coming in No. 4 in 2016, No. 3 in 2017, No. 2 in 2018.

“They actually care about your life outside of work — your short- and long-term goals, beliefs, your family, your struggles and successes,’’ the employees told Fortune. “We aren’t treated like work robots with one sole purpose, we are treated with great respect and appreciation.”

In the site’s previous rankings, Publix was 29th in Best Workplaces for Women in 2018; 62nd in Best Workplaces for Millennials in 2018; sixth in Best Workplaces for Diversity in 2017; and ninth among People Companies that Care in 2017.
