In a continued push to drum up tourism beyond Miami-Dade’s famous beaches, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau on Friday opened a new visitor center in Little Havana.

The center, at 1442 SW Eighth St., will offer brochures, calendars, maps and other information on events, attractions and tours in Little Havana as well as other neighborhoods around the county. It will be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The bureau’s multicultural tourism team opened the outpost in partnership with the city of Miami, Miami-Dade Parking Authority and Viernes Culturales, the nonprofit that organizes monthly cultural events in Little Havana.

A marketing campaign that was announced last year seeks to draw attention to cultural and historic neighborhoods such as Little Havana, Coconut Grove, Overtown and Little Haiti.
