Miami celebrity photographer has shot them all. Now, hear the stories behind the pics
J.Lo, Shakira, Diddy. Donald Trump. OJ. Every Estefan under the sun.
Manny Hernandez, aka Manny of Miami, has photographed them all — and then some — in his native 305 over the last 30-plus years.
Don’t call the celebrity shutterbug a paparazzo, though. Hernandez manages to snag some of the biggest stars by being polite, non-intrusive, charming. And he has a rule about snapping their kids — they have to be out in a public place, then “it’s fair game.”
“I’m not there to ask for selfies and I’m not an autograph hunter,” the Miami Herald contributor says of his straightforward, approachable style. “I’m covering news.”
Hear Hernandez talk about what makes him tick (and click) on Friday night, when he joins another local legend, Billy Corben, at the Museum of Graffiti’s Art of Hip Hop exhibition space.
The “Cocaine Cowboys” filmmaker will interview Hernandez about his iconic photos of the rich and famous (and infamous) with a highlight on rappers and how our hip-hop scene has evolved.
They’ll also take a look at the shutterbug’s new book, “Candids 2,” a follow-up to his 2018 release of the same name. Included are throwback images of politicians (Margaret Thatcher), pop stars (Backstreet Boys, Madonna), and late icons (Selena, Prince).
