Things To Do

Zoo Miami is finally reopening. Here’s what you need to do to see the animals again

The animals are ready to see you now.

Zoo Miami, which closed July 4 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is now set to reopen with — of course! — new rules for social distancing.

First of all, don’t just show up. You need to buy tickets ahead of time online, as there will be a daily limited capacity of visitors.

Like Publix, some exhibits will have one-way only directional floor decals that you’ll need to follow: Critter Connection, Amazon and Beyond; and Florida: Mission Everglades. Some animal encounters will stay closed, such as the feedings of the camels, giraffes, parrots and rhino. Playgrounds, rides and water play areas will also remain closed, and zookeeper presentations are also on hold.

Food will be available via cellphone orders, with seating areas socially distanced.

And of course masks are required for all visitors age 2 and older. Don’t even think about complaining, because you can buy zoo themed masks at giftshop.zoomiami.org while supplies last, and they are pretty cute (we really love the tiger mask).

The zoo opens Tuesday, Sept. 15. The reopening is part of South Florida’s move into Phase 2 of coronavirus recovery.
