A drive-in movie and a drag show: This LGBTQ-friendly film festival in Miami has it all
Bored in the house, in the house, bored?
Then get out, to “Outshine.” The LGBTQ film festival is a drive in affair, starting at 6 p.m. Thursday at Dezerland Park in North Miami Beach.
The fest, a “celebration of diversity and equality,” showcases 80 plus films available for streaming through Aug 30 at https://outshinefilm.com.
Thursday night’s opener, the dramedy “Stage Mother,” stars Jacki Weaver (“Silver Linings Playbook”), Adrian Grenier and Lucy Liu.
No red carpets, of course. No meet and greets. But the pandemic friendly event will feature an in the flesh performance by drag queens TP Lords and Jasmine Pryce Lords.
“Stage Mother” tells the story of Maybelline (Weaver), a conservative Texas church-choir director who inherits her recently deceased son’s drag club. She surprises her closed-minded husband and everyone else she knows by moving alone to San Francisco to save the club.
A virtual Q&A will take place after the film with director Thom Fitzgerald, screenwriter Brad Hennig and some of the stars.
Then you can go home and nestle back into your quarantine couch.
