Orange Bowl game
The Orange Bowl Committee was created in 1935. Its mission then was to generate tourism to South Florida through an annual football game and supporting Festival. Since that time, the not-for-profit 333-member, primarily-volunteer organization has expanded its reach beyond the city to become a foundation of the South Florida community.
In 2009 the FedEx Orange Bowl celebrate its 75th Anniversary on Jan. 1, 2009, as the culmination of the annual Orange Bowl Festival. Expected to play would be the champion of the Atlantic Coast Conference against an at-large opponent selected by the Orange Bowl Committee.
The Orange Bowl Committee was founded by a small group of dedicated, energetic businessmen who happened to love football and Miami. They believed that “football in the tropics” would evolve into a lasting spectacle that would make Miami shine.
