Don’t Be a Basic B*tch: Wear Krel Wear

When it comes to fashion, Golden Beach-born designer Karelle Levy is anything but basic…

In fact, she recently opened an atelier, Krel Wear, in the MiMo District’s Iron Side building.

Here, Levy helms a unique fashion brand of one-of-a-kind tropical knits inspired by Miami. Colorful and distinctive, any Krel Wear piece will have one standing apart from the masses. “It’s a blend of fashion-meets-art where all the elements down to the fabrics are made and designed in house,” Levy says.

Krel’s story, you ask? While attending Rhode Island School of Design, Levy majored in textiles and honed her knitting on hand machines skills. Bitten by the knitting bug, she hasn’t ceased. “I started making costume pieces and then more wearable ones. And eventually had to sell since I made so many pieces,” she says. Levy also helms a couture collection, KREL, where each piece is hand knit, as well as a custom project called “Quickie Couture” where each piece is draped on the client for a personal fitting and finished within less than an hour.

Because, you know, she just can’t be basic.
