Keeping Up With Camilla
What do A-listers such as Beyoncé, Olivia Palermo, Alessandra Ambrosio, Georgia May Jagger, Miranda Kerr and Lily Allen have in common? They all covet the crystal-embellished creations of fashion designer Camilla Franks. For the past 12 years, her eponymous ready-to-wear line, CAMILLA, boasts vivacious hues and punchy prints — with a cult following. In town to present her collection for Swim Week, we catch up with the Australian-based designer and self-professed gypsy.
If you weren’t a designer, what would be Plan B? A really messy chef.
Shoes you live in: Nike high tops or barefoot on Bondi Beach sands.
Jewelry pieces you take everywhere: My favorite pieces are those that I’ve collected on my travels — each piece I wear holds the story of my journeys and those I’ve met. They’re eclectic, antique and tribal.
You’re ordering a cocktail… what’s your signature drink? A great, big spicy Bloody Mary.
Instant mood booster: An impromptu interpretive dance with no inhibitions.
What’s your beauty philosophy? Waking up with self-love and a yoga session with a long lasting savasana.
Most memorable hotel? La Colombe d’Or in a tiny little artist village in St-Paul de Vence in France which is surrounded by Picassos, Miros and Kandinskys. But I am looking forward to my adventures in the Faena Hotel in Miami this week.
What app can you not live without? As a woman with no sense of direction, I must say Google Maps.
Favorite flowers? I never discriminate flowers, any bits of Mother Nature are welcome into my world.
Three things you cannot live without: My tribe, my two fur babies Gypsy and Beau, and my Welsh man.
Dream car: A gypsy wagon.
A vacation spot: Qualia Resort, which is on a magical island off the coast of Australia. It’s off the beaten track but not far from home.
Trait you love most about yourself: Creating beauty from the unexpected.
You have the day off — quick! — what are you doing? What’s that!?
