Kit and Ace Opens in Wynwood

The words “chic” and “comfortable” might as well be star-crossed lovers; the two rarely seem to meet — especially in the fashion industry. Kit and Ace is challenging that notion with the recent opening of its Wynwood-based boutique last week. A Coconut Grove location is set to open after Art Basel.

Founded by Shannon and JJ Wilson in 2014, the Canadian-based brand is expanding rapidly across the States and plans to open 30 to 50 shops by the end of this year. If the name Wilson doesn’t ring a bell, think hard and channel your chakras. When lululemon Founder Chip Wilson isn’t dedicating his life to yoga pants, he’s spending time with his wife, Shannon, and son, JJ. The duo sought to blend the comfort of performance wear with the sophistication of high fashion, and they achieved just that.

Kit and Ace’s collection, on the other hand, may focus on the essentials, but the brand takes a non-traditional approach with futuristic fabrics. Exhibit A: Technical Cashmere™, a machine washable cashmere to protect you from those irksome dry cleaning bills.

The concept may hail from Vancouver, but the boutique will be clad in 305 adornments. The shop features “hyper-local” elements, highlighting quality pieces created by Miami’s local artists and photographers. “Our intention is to create a space where locals can shop for great clothes, be inspired and engage in meaningful conversations,” Shannon says.

Curated culture and chic basics? We’ll see you there.
