Let’s talk fashion on the golf greens, shall we? Seeing as all eyes will be on the biggest names in golf beginning March 4th — Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Jason Day, Adam Scott, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose to name a few — compliments of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship at the Trump National Doral, well, it only seems fitting to discuss golf wear trends for both the players and spectators.
“Fashion has always played a pivotal role in golf and golfers do take their style cues directly from professional golf. If you look at what’s happening on Tour now, trends to watch are slim trousers, bright prints and playful pops of color like plum — our standout color for the season — and unconventional logos,” golf wear brand J. Lindeberg Director of Golf for the U.S. Annmarie Dodd says.

For those spectating this weekend, keep it classic and cushy. “Golf clothing is more in line with everyday wear than, say, tennis. As a spectator, the rule of thumb should be: Keep it neat, simple and traditional. Wear a shirt tucked in with a belt, shorts or long pants. Solid colors are also recommended and comfortable shoes are must,” Image Consultant and Personal Stylist Elysze Held says.
Seeing as temperatures are forecasted to be in the humid 80s during the tournament, proper fabric choice is of the essence. “Wear lightweight and breathable fabrics that are ventilated for comfort like mesh, so air can pass through. The technology used in creating these fabrics is amazing right now and most of the more familiar brands do have their own registered line of products such as Airflux by PGA Tour Perry Ellis International, Dry-Fit by Nike and Climalite by adidas,” Held says.
“This is not a stadium seat, you are going to be on the move, especially if you want to follow your favorite golfer. There are not many sports where the spectators share the same setting and conditions with the athletes they are watching. With this, wear tech fabrics, sunscreen and shoes that can go 18 holes,” Dodd adds.
The bottom line when it comes to bridging the love of golf with fashion? Dodd says, “Golf is beautiful, graceful game played in beautiful, graceful places. Dressing well is part of the setting, the day you are sharing with your foursome, and the respect you have for the game.”
And that’s how you score a hole-in-one in fashion on the greens.

●Belts always tie a look together
●Comfortable shoes are a must
●Don’t forget the SPF, sunglasses and hat or visor
