Things To Do

Interview with OMEGA VP Raynald Aeschlimann

Watch out (literally) for this new store, Miami. OMEGA watches recently opened in the Design District. Nestled near the Palm Court, the freshly minted boutique boasts the Swiss luxury watchmaker’s latest collections — while showcased around the themes of sun, water, earth and time. We take a time out with Switzerland-based OMEGA Vice President and Head of International Sales Raynald Aeschlimann for you.

This is OMEGA’s second Miami store — Aventura Mall being the first. Why was the Design District your next choice? The Design District is increasingly becoming a destination in its own right. The transformation of that area of Miami has been remarkable and the driving forces behind it have been able to realize their ambitious aim of developing a neighborhood that exudes a unique buzz with its combination of creativity, quirky architecture and design. It feels like an ideal place for OMEGA.

Cindy Crawford has been a longtime OMEGA brand ambassador. What is it like working with her? I know that it sounds like a cliché to say that a brand ambassador is like a member of the family but with Cindy, it’s true. She has been with Omega for nearly 20 years now — much longer than most of our employees! Cindy is a consummate professional and is always well prepared so any event with her goes smoothly.

When in Miami, what are your musts? When I’ve had the opportunity to spend some time on holiday in Miami, one indulgence that was particularly enjoyable was the chance to sit on the terrace of the W Hotel with a cigar. Sometimes simple pleasures are the best.

What is the best advice anyone has ever given you? We should always respect our own values and to be true to them in every aspect of life. I try to apply this advice when I am meeting with customers and managing staff and in everything else I do.

If you weren’t the VP of OMEGA, what would be Plan B? I could imagine working as a doctor for an international charity like Orbis International or Doctors Without Borders. It would be incredibly gratifying to help children and other people who don’t enjoy the privileges and the quality of life that we do.

It’s your day off — quick! — what are you doing? On any day off, I’ll put on my jogging shoes and go for a long and healthy run.
