The lowdown: Tired of the same ol’, same ol’ aerobics classes? Then it’s time to give Flywheel a spin (pun intended). Touted for their trademark indoor stadium-seating cycling classes, Flywheel will be opening its third South Florida outpost in North Miami. The new studio joinis its Miami Beach and Boca Raton sisters and opens on February 22, 2015. Flywheel North Miami will mark the company’s 32nd studio in the U.S.
The vibe: Tucked in Biscayne Commons Shopping Center, the studio boasts a computer login area, open-air locker space and state-of-the-art cycling room and FlyBarre studio. Once riders are seated in the arena-like classroom, the lights are switched off, the music is blasted and a peppy instructor leads the way. There’s even arm weights segment during each class and flat screens to track one’s performance (brilliant for competitive types).

FlyBarre, on the other hand, is a total body sculpting class. Think high energy sculpting sessions systematically working each muscle group through a sequence of focused movements, or “pulses.” While the specific moves change frequently, every class is designed to target the arm, abdominal, thigh and seat regions. The entire body will tighten and lengthen, but the most immediate noticeable changes are generally seen in the arms and core.
The highlights: From complimentary cycling shoes, lockers, towels and bottled water — Flywheel has got you covered. Guest can reserve seats for each 45-minute class ($25) in advance online — making the booking process easy peasy. Alas, we wish we could say the same for the strenuous workouts — get ready to feel the behemothic burn.
The co-founder says: “While both classes are fast-paced, high-energy and lead to great results, combining Flywheel and FlyBarre takes core-tightening and body-lengthening to new levels,” Ruth Zukerman says.
