Things To Do

For the love of art, music and booze: Valentine's Weekend in Miami

Art Attack

Is the love of your life as elusive as a unicorn jumping over a rainbow with a cute puppy on its horn? Or maybe you have one and have no idea what to do on Valentine’s Day that doesn’t involve cheesy, overpriced schlock and menus? Consider Fine Art Auctions Miami’s open to the public cocktail event from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at SPACEBY3, 2105 N. Miami Ave. There, you will celebrate love and love of art with previews of works slated to be auctioned off on Monday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. Among them, works by Banksy and Keith Haring. There will also be fancy waches auctioned off as well as art by some big names. The drinking, compliments of Rhum Clement and Lillet, as well as a fashion show by Regine Chevallier, take place Saturday night. To attend the Saturday festivities,

Got Sole?

Matisyahu, Hebrew for Gift of God, is a name someone as pompous as Kanye West would love to have. Thankfully for music fans, it belongs to the alternative reggae/rapper who will perform at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, February 16 at Sole on the Ocean’s Barefoot Concert Series, 17315 Collins Ave. Also performing is Bushwood, a six piece reggae rock band. A DJ — Monsieur Zonzon (not his Hebrew name) — will spin while chef Philippe Ruiz will create a specialty menu from the hotel’s new restaurant FAB. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $50 for VIP, which includes terrace seating, complimentary hors d’oeuvres and two drinks. Tickets are available by clicking here.

A Boozy Kinda Love

Conveniently and just in time for Saturday’s Hallmark holiday, Lou’s Beer Garden at The New Hotel in Miami Beach, 7337 Harding Ave., is offering an ‘experience’ called Cocktails for Two, which sounds a lot better than Pounding Drinks A Deux. For just $32, you’ll get a carafe of The St-Germain Cocktail–champagne, sparkling water, St-Germain over ice with a lemon twist. The carafe is mixed tableside and serves approximately 5 drinks, so if you’re not a couple, you may be afterwards.

Artsy Heartsy

All the doomsdayers, black is the new black wearers, and glass half empty drinkers out there should just ignore the number on the calendar and consider Friday, February (redacted) a day to live, say, creatively or something like that. It’s easy, too, with the help of Heartsy, a cutesy organization whose MO is “Muah! Whether it’s singles out to socialize, or a cute couple on a unique dating adventure, more and more people are choosing Heartsy™ to spend their meaningful moments with! During our 2-hour creative workshops, you and your loved ones will have a chance to truly connect while learning to create something fun, easy, and artsy.” Muah indeed, and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Burger & Beer Joint’s Mary Brickell branch, 900 S. Miami Ave., you can do just that and make your own (or a lucky recipient’s) 16” x 20” acrylic painting. All materials are included in the $40 ticket. Creativity and love connections are optional.
