New World Symphony releases Wallcast concert series schedule for 2014-2015
New World Symphony’s (NWS) 2014-15 WALLCAST concert series is set to kick off Saturday, Oct. 11 with special programming—including a pre-WALLCAST family lecture series—thanks in part to Citi’s Community Sponsorship.
This season will also see enhancements to New World Center’s outdoor projectors, upgraded to 4K allowing for brighter picture and higher definition videos.
“As Citi continues to grow in Miami, we want to enhance our engagement with residents and increase our visibility throughout the city,” said Citi Retail Banking Miami Market President Diane Ryan. “The partnership with New World Symphony is the latest example of how we are doing that.”
The WALLCAST concert series is free and open to the public, held at the adjacent SoundScape Park. Select concerts, conducted inside New World Center, are simulcast onto the building’s 7,000-square-foot exterior wall, designed by star architect Frank Gehry. Here, outdoor concertgoers gather, often with picnics in tow, to enjoy the orchestral academy’s performances at dusk under the Miami sky.
This year, special events will be held both before and after WALLCAST concerts on the plaza, as well as a lecture series held inside the New World Center, led by NWS Fellows. These lectures will offer further insight into the performance from a musician’s perspective. They will be given at concerts on Oct. 11, Dec. 20, Feb. 21 and April 11, one hour prior to the concert start time.
On opening night, guests will have the opportunity to join the WALLCAST Concert Club — where they’ll gain special notices and discounts — and receive a complimentary picnic basket to use at future concerts.
With the picnic-goer in mind, New World Symphony will also publish the WALLCAST Concert Recipe Book, presented by Citi, lauding the best in South Florida’s picnic food and drink. Contributors will range from local celebrities and officials to chefs, bartenders and classical musicians (including NWS co-founder and artistic director Michael Tilson Thomas). A call to entry will be announced later this month for others to submit their recipes. The book will be published before the end of the season in April 2015.
In addition to the WALLCAST concert series, SoundScape Park also hosts a monthly cinema series and December’s Art Basel Miami Beach’s video art.
