Velvet Underground: Mansion nightclub opens 'Cocktails and Dreams' and Craft Spirits Festival kicks off in Coconut Grove

Venues Within Venues

Move over pop-ups and make room for venues within venues such as “Cocktail and Dreams,” a new bar within the walls of the nightclub known as Mansion, 1235 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, making its debut on the scene Saturday, Oct. 4 vis-à-vis the club’s new Saturday night theme party, “Mansion Made Me Do It.” This week’s theme: The Red Light District, featuring, yep, an homage to the world’s oldest profession that’s entirely legal(ish) with blow up dolls, burlesque shows and well you get the picture. But back to that bar. Running the show is George Cavros, who hails from King Ink in Las Vegas and the Light Group. He’ll be shaking up Mai Tais in pineapples; On My Dirty Knees, a vodka, aperol, apple puree, ginger syrup and lime juice concoction; Whips and Paddles fusing rye, strawberries, allspice, ike juice; and champagne and more. Cover is $30.

Sunday’s Cool

As big a fan of Dr. Seuss and rhyming as we are, there’s something about the term Sunday Funday that makes us cringe. That being said, why shouldn’t Sundays be fun, especially with gloomy Monday looming? Monty’s Sunset, 300 Alton Rd., Miami Beach, is capitalizing on that whole beginning of the week/end of the weekend amusement with Electric Sundaze, a party from 2 to 11 p.m. for those who like to stretch out that last day of rest, featuring football on all 700 HDTV flat screens and rotating DJs spinning electric lounge and dance music until you have to leave and face the reality of a not so fun day, Monday. No cover and bathing suits are allowed.

While the Craft Spirits Festival in Coconut Grove is primarily for those who take their booze as serious business beyond pounding drinks, tickets are available to the public for the grand tasting at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 9 at the Cruz Building, 3157 Commodore Plaza, for a steep $75 per person, or you can just go for free to the William Grant & Sons pop-up speakeasy at El Patio at Big Game Liquors, 930 S. LeJeune Rd., Miami, from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. There, Nick Nistico will be creating cocktails using Reyka Vodka and Monkey Shoulder.   RSVP is required

Music, says Madonna, makes the people come together, yeah. And in the case of funk, fusion jazz band Suenalo, it also makes people stay in school, at least after the band’s three-hour set starting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 at Ball & Chain, 1513 SW 8th St., Miami /, when the Communities in Schools of Miami’s first ever charity concert takes place. The $30 ticket, directly benefiting CIS’s mentoring, tutoring, career counseling, after school and summer programs, includes cocktails too. To purchase, go to
